Mindfulness in Organizations Teacher Training Program – edition 3 – 2017 (in English)
26 november 2017 @ 10:00 - 17:30
Organizations have an increasing demand for mindfulness training. As part of their vitality programs for example, or to enhance sustainable employability for leaders and employees. But also, to develop a work environment that fosters employee well-being, effective teamwork and high performance.
Teaching mindfulness to organizations is a profession on its own. A profession more and more trainers wish to develop. And that is what this program is about: to develop your professionality in bringing mindfulness to organizations.
We will provide you with knowledge about what it means for people to work in organizations, and how that impacts the way you can teach mindfulness. You will learn how employees deal with stress and the need to perform, and how this is influenced by for example engagement, control and commitment. All of this based on the newest insights from organization science, psychology, neuro science and mindfulness.
This program teaches you how to effectively apply the best interventions for mindfulness in organizations. You will learn what it takes to establish yourself as a professional mindfulness trainer for organizations: how to approach organizations, how to make a business case, how to conduct the training, and how to make sure both your participants and the organization as-a-whole feel your training has been effective and worth-while.
The program is built around the idea that as a mindfulness trainer in organizations you need to work on the intersection of three areas: the personal development of employees, the requirements of his or her profession, and the organization they work at, including its teams, culture and developments. Each individual area and their intersections present employees and managers with a myriad of challenges: mental pressure, understanding and misunderstanding, not being able to meet workplace demands, difficulties in cooperation, annoying colleagues, no control over their work, a tough or threatening organizational culture, etc. . But – fortunately – each area and intersection can have positive effects as well, such as feeling part of something bigger, personal and professional growth, fun, and a sense of relevance and contribution.
The program Trainer Mindfulness in Organizations helps you develop a better understanding of the different areas and their intersections. And of course, you will learn new competencies to support adults within organizations in their learning process so employees, managers and their organizations can develop more effective ways to deal with the challenges they are facing.
The program consists of three modules: in the first module, we focus on your own understanding of how organizations work and on how to intervene – with mindfulness training to create an organizational culture where quality and high performance go hand in hand with well-being and flourishing of co-workers. Next up is the practical component of this program: the second module in which you will contract and conduct a mindfulness training in an organization to show your competence in teaching mindfulness in a work context. During this module, you will reflect upon your work in supervised peer groups (possible both on- and offline). Your experiences will be used as input for module three. This third and last module focuses on how you as a trainer grow your competence in intervening in organizations to employees and organizations can develop a better understanding of their functioning and how they can apply mindfulness in their daily work and leadership. You will also learn how mindfulness can help organizations perform better without sacrificing well-being.
The first and third module, which each consist of three consecutive days, combine short theoretical introductions with exercises in contracting and applying mindfulness interventions in organizations, and with the possibility to exchange questions and experiences with other participants. Prior to the program, you will be asked to describe two of your own cases and to read some literature.
Wibo Koole is the head of program. He is an experienced mindfulness himself, and the author of two books on mindfulness in organizations: Mindful Leadership for Effective Teams and Organizations, and Mindfulness at Work. In addition, we will work with guest lecturers, who are specialists in various fields: Arnold Bakker (professor of work and organizational psychology), Marie-Claire Ties (teams and group dynamics in organizations), Tim Gard (neuroscience and mindfulness).
